Although the town of Long Beach claims a modest year-round population, the census tends to triple during the warmer months as seasonal visitors and vacationers arrive to enjoy the resort atmosphere. One of the crown jewels in the town is the Long Beach Country Club, serving members with the finest in dining, golfing, and entertainment since 1924. Perched atop the beautiful Indiana Dunes, the club is located just a few blocks from Lake Michigan. The multi-faceted Old School Community Center is a focal point of daily life, used for creative workshops and activities as well as theatrical performances, parties and meetings, special events, and recreational and sports activities. The homes in the Long Beach area vary from summer cottages to exclusive properties that command breathtaking views.

Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 3.2 square miles (8.2 kmē), of which, 1.0 square miles (2.7 kmē) of it is land and 2.1 square miles (5.5 kmē) of it (66.98%) is water.
Features Located on the southeast shore of Lake Michigan, Long Beach is a residential community with various tree covered dunes. It has a shoreline of approximately 3 miles and a maximum depth of 3/4 miles. Residents tend to be a mixture of permanent residents and individuals visiting Long Beach on weekends or for the summer, the latter group mostly individuals from nearby Chicago.
Long Beach has a town-owned water system and few sewers and sidewalks. It is a part of the Michigan City, Indiana public school system. The government includes a five member town council, a clerk treasurer, a police department, a volunteer fire department, a park department, and a water board. Long Beach has a very small business center and a golf course/country club.
