The Near North Side is one of 77 well defined community areas of Chicago, Illinois. It is located north of the Chicago River and the downtown central business district (the Loop). With the exception of Cabrini-Green, the Near North Side is known for its extreme amount of affluence.

True to its name, the Gold Coast has long been home to some of Chicago's wealthiest residents, living in luxury turn-of-the century mansions and new high-rises overlooking Lake Michigan north of Downtown.
